Adobe Releases Source Han Sans: Iwata Extends Japanese Ideographs & Adds Korean Ideographs

Adobe Systems Incorporated released Source Han Sans in partnership with Google, with Iwata responsible for designing additional ideographs for Japanese, along with those for Korean (July 15, 2014 PDT, July 16, 2014 JST).

Iwata Corporation (3-2-9 Iwamotocho, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & Representative Director: Koichiro Mizuno) announced that the company has designed additional ideographs (kanji) for Japanese, along with those for Korean (hanja), that are included in Source Han Sans, whose release was announced by Adobe.

Source Han Sans is an open source Pan-CJK font family released by Adobe in partnership with Google. Source Han Sans forms a font family that supports the glyphs necessary for East Asia, meaning for Japanese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean. Adobe partnered with Iwata to design glyphs that vary by language, appreciating the need to work with an established type foundry with such knowledge and experience.

Iwata UD Font wins Good Design Life-Scape Design 2009

The Iwata UD Font wins the Good Design Life-Scape Design Award 2009 (granted by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry).

The Iwata UD Font (24 families of font) was awarded the Good Design Life-Scape Design Award, (granted by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry). The Life-Scape Design Award is a special prize for a design that has achieved a high degree of perfection leading to a style based on sensibility and value for the current era that is supported by consumers, chosen from among all of the candidates and the winners of Good Design Long Life Design Award. The UD Font was ranked No. 21 among about 3,000 applicants.
